Ernie H. Lawhon established the company in 1910 as E. H. Lawhon Construction Company. Lawhon has been in continuous operation ever since, making it one of the oldest and most respected General Contractors in the area. Though the company’s name was shortened through the years to include only the founder’s surname, the traditions of quality workmanship and honesty that began way back in 1910 still shine through today!
Through the years, Lawhon has built some of the most enduring and easily recognizable buildings in the St. Joseph community. The photos below were published in the First Annual Edition of "Builders of Missouri". According to that publication, the six construction firms from different parts of the state whose work was displayed were " selected as having done an outstanding job in their respective areas." The publication went on to say, "These companies are qualified by their past performances to build in all categories, Institutional, Industrial, Commercial and Residential Construction. They have dispatched their work with honesty, efficiency and economy. Their best reference is the buildings they have built and the people for whom they have built."
